For people who (like me) only need a read-only version of their notebooks: exporting as a web site does not mean you must access them online. Just copy the web site files to your smartphone (or laptop), and you can access them without an internet connection.

I must admit that my enthusiasm for a device like an iPad is directly linked to the availability of something like Notebook for it.

Notebook is great – but Laptops are not always the most convenient form factor when you want to quickly reference information that you have. If there was a poll on it I would definately vote for a iPad/phone version….

I might sound skeptical, but have been following this forum for the last 5-6 months, and I think there wont be an iphone app nor ipad app.

By following the forum.. I mean following the updates on the application in the form of announcements, updates, etc. NoteBook 3.0 released in September 2008, I am glad that there is consistent bug fix and I was very hopeful of iphone app & a web integration (automatic import and export) as well as further features research. Unfortunately, I dont feel that way anymore.

Please do not get me wrong, I LOVE NoteBook and probably it is this too much love that’s resulting in high expectation.

Am I the only one who feels this way? Am I mistaken in my conclusion ?

Another thought, in addition to using cell linking to link from an outline page that could act as a table of contents, each item with a link to an exhibit or code page, you could also just put sticky flags with the name of the item on the page you’re interested in accessing quickly.

Depends:
If you add a file or link to it, no. You’d have to annotate in Notebook the page you want to review and use Preview to skip to that page (in Preview you can add to the toolbar a page field where you can type the page you want to be taken to).

If you insert for annotation, yes. This is probably what you’ll want to do. When you drag a PDF into Notebook, you get an option to add for annotation. Every page of the PDF is added into notebook as it’s own page in notebook. You could link directly to that page in notebook, and even annotate on it. You can, anywhere on those annotated pages, right click the image and choose to open/view the source file in Preview also (it embeds the file, then spans the pages in Notebook).

Also, check out MarketCircle’s Daylite and Billings. They may be of interest to you for practice management. Very affordable ($180 and $40 for single user licenses). The Billings integration needs a tad more work, but I got both for a legal clinic I’m doing in law school and am happy with the purchase.

I’d really like to see Notebook integrate with Daylite (cross referencing – so a task would link to notes on it in Notebook or something), but that’s asking for a lot from one of the developers.

JNW is not free. There is a price, even if you can donate the author the price you think is right. It is a great app, and I hope nobody will use it “for free” because the author trusts his customers and lets them use it as long as they like, without asking for a payment.

However, I don’t think it is the right app for the task asked by the original poster. It can be done, but then he would miss the powerful indexing capabilities of CP. As Scrivener, JNW is meant (as the name implies) mainly for narrative writing, possibly with the help of an external, more comprehensive database.

SVogt, this behavior has not changed from previous versions.

If you are on the Contents page, you cannot make a page a child of another page. The Contents page (as well as Divider pages) work similarly to Note pages, but really are quite different. They are primarily for organizing pages, where Note pages are used for organizing content.

If you want to create a hierarchy of pages on the Contents page, you can add Divider pages to do this. A Divider page can be a child of another Divider page. This is likely what you are recalling.

In a previous version of NoteBook, I was able to tab to make one page a child of another page on the Contents tab. Then I was able to click the triangle next to the parent title to collapse the subpages.

I really miss this feature. Is there any way of doing something like it? Can I reformat my Contents page so that it is in Outline format? I think this is what Steven is looking for.

The only way I have found to include the header information in the cell is by saving it as an RTF which really sucks,
another option is to select the header area – clip, then select the body text and clip
in notebook, a quick TAB to indent the text under the header and you’re there

robp,
“1. Ctrl-click on a message in Mail pulls up a menu from which you can access the clip and annotate feature. But the text that gets clipped does not include the header for the email (sender, recipient, date sent etc). Is there any way to add the header text in automatically?”

If you clip the email to a clipping page and then right-click (ctrl-click) the scissors icon and hold your cursor over the Mail item you will see the basic header info.

“2. The clip and annotate function is not always available – sometimes just makes an “error” sound. Not sure what’s going on there.”

?? Unsure what you mean?

“3. Would be great to be able automatically to add clipped messages to the relevant clipping page in reverse date order (most recent at the top, oldest at the bottom).”

Have you tried using the Sort feature in the Action Inspector tab?

Another nice feature would be if the emails (and other clippings) were put under a collapsable title so you didn’t have this huge list of stuff to scroll through.

Something like:

- email <id timestamp and info>
    - <email text goes here>
- clipping <program timestamp name and>
    - <clip goes here>

There might even be a way to script this, I don’t know.
