Clipping email into NoteBook

Clipping email into NoteBook

by robp - 07:28AM, May 28, 2007

HiI have some questions about how best to clip email into NoteBook, and I’m hoping that someone out there has the answers.1. Ctrl-click on a message in Mail pulls up a menu from which you can access the clip and annotate feature. But the text that gets clipped does not include the header for the email (sender, recipient, date sent etc). Is there any way to add the header text in automatically? Alternatively, is there a way to automatically tag the clipped text with the date the message was received or sent?2. The clip and annotate function is not always available – sometimes just makes an “error” sound. Not sure what’s going on there.3. Would be great to be able automatically to add clipped messages to the relevant clipping page in reverse date order (most recent at the top, oldest at the bottom). Is there a way to do this?4. Sometimes Apple Mail is a bit weird about selecting both email header and text (if you clip the long way – Services – Notebook – etc). Anyone else experienced this?ThanksRob

Another nice feature would be if the emails (and other clippings) were put under a collapsable title so you didn’t have this huge list of stuff to scroll through.

Something like:

- email <id timestamp and info>
    - <email text goes here>
- clipping <program timestamp name and>
    - <clip goes here>

There might even be a way to script this, I don’t know.

robp,
“1. Ctrl-click on a message in Mail pulls up a menu from which you can access the clip and annotate feature. But the text that gets clipped does not include the header for the email (sender, recipient, date sent etc). Is there any way to add the header text in automatically?”

If you clip the email to a clipping page and then right-click (ctrl-click) the scissors icon and hold your cursor over the Mail item you will see the basic header info.

“2. The clip and annotate function is not always available – sometimes just makes an “error” sound. Not sure what’s going on there.”

?? Unsure what you mean?

“3. Would be great to be able automatically to add clipped messages to the relevant clipping page in reverse date order (most recent at the top, oldest at the bottom).”

Have you tried using the Sort feature in the Action Inspector tab?

The only way I have found to include the header information in the cell is by saving it as an RTF which really sucks,
another option is to select the header area – clip, then select the body text and clip
in notebook, a quick TAB to indent the text under the header and you’re there
