Using NoteBook with Endnote?

What is it that you want to import into Notebook? Your EndNote library? You could use EndNote to create a bibliography formatted however you like and save that as an rtf file and import it or just copy & paste that into NoteBook. But if you are looking to insert references into a document or Notebook page and then handle all the formating & numbering via EndNote it isn't going to happen. That is only supported in Microsoft Word. And if you are writing your thesis, at least at this University, there is an absolute requirement that it be submitted as a Microsoft Word file anyway. NoteBook is a great way to keep track of everything but there is no getting away from the Word file requirement.

Thanks Cameraman for your reply,

I was indeed trying to ascertain if I could Import Endnote into NoteBook (like I can do with Word). Word is the only acceptable format at my uni as well for submissions - however I was hoping to additionally publish (in a secure environment) my work in progress as a backup using NoteBook - However, perhaps I will continue to use my iDisk for this. I'm just trying to streamline the process the best way I can.

I just read the discussion about using Endnote with Notebook. It IS possible to insert Endnote citations into Notebook. Use the "Services" menu. There should be a submenu for Endnote that has "Insert Citation". This will put the citation onto a Notebook page. If you want to format your citations and make a reference list, you'll need to export the page as an RTF file and use Endnote's Scan RTF document function.

You can't use the Cite As You Write function (that's only for Word), but this method is fine. Besides, I've found that after awhile the CiteAs You Write function causes crashes in Word.

I am in the midst of a dissertation as well. I do not know how much help the endnote services menu is because it won't format the section in the notebook with the correct format. I am trying to use a combination of copying and pasting between Notebook, Word, and Endnote. I am still figuring out how to do this because the program is almost perfect for a dissertation provided your University will take it in PDF format. Who (or University) in their right mind would want a Word document over a PDF, it is probably time for some universities to change that rule. The only other thing which would make it more helpful besides seemless integration with endnote would be the ability to adjust the pagination better. I know for my dissertation I need to add some pagination using roman numerals and then cannot include the contents page in the physical pagination. Any ideas on that would be appreciated.

I recently had to deliver an article in Word - I would not have agreed to do it had I known that beforehand.

Eventually I decided to convert my LaTeX-file to Mellel - which exports perfectly well into RTF. In fact, Word files with Hebrew cannot be read with Word for Mac (at least until the very last version, of which I am happily unaware), while Mellel imports and exports them easily as RTF's, including footnotes. The free Cardo font works on both platforms and it's "not too bad".

Ergo, one is not condemned to use Word even if a Word-file must be the ultimate outcome. I do not know whether Endnote works well with Mellel, however.

Try harder! Push your client to accept PDF and then use LaTeX or ConTeX. :-)

Mellel is a really good word processor, excellent value for money. It has almost the coolness factor of NB. :-)

Cheers,
/Markus.

OK, but Mellel rather collaborates with Bookends from Sonny than it does with EndNote...

Ditto to Mirko. I have switched to Mellel for academic writing, which integrates superbly with Bookends (unlike Endnote, with Bookends inserted citations are intact objects - there are no codes that can be messed up by accidental find and replace operations). NoteBook seems to be promising to me as a replacement for 3x5 cards--I used my own custom HyperCard solution in OS 9 ("HyperNote"), but now I absolutely have to find a better way in OS X. So I'm trying out NoteBook for 30 days, to see how I can get it to work with Mellel and Bookends. If anyone else is going down this path, maybe we can compare notes. Thanks,

PEACE

What about the other direction? Say I have a lot of bibliography type info on Notebook and I would like EndNotes to pick it up and add the reference to the End Notes bibliography.
