While my macbook air is in the shop, I am currently using my trusty iBook G4 to do my computing tasks.

Today, I installed notebook v. 3.0 on my iBook running Tiger and when I open the notebook I get the message: “There was a problem locating the clipping services information folder”.

I realize that this is also preventing me from utilizing the clipping service.

Does anyone know what is going on? Is it due to my older operating system?

Thanks!

This error means that the folder named ~/Library/Services/NoteBookHelper.service (or its contents) is not writable by you. Try changing read/write permissions for it by selecting the folder and choosing Get Info from the Finder’s File menu.

The ”~” character, in case you don’t know, is UNIX shorthand for your home folder. Your home folder has the same name as your login account name and is located in /Users.

If that doesn’t work, try deleting NoteBookHelper.service (and restarting NoteBook: NoteBook will reinstall it).

I found the NotebookHelper.service file in the Trash. I deleted it. Notebook did not reinstall on restart.

Any suggestions?

That could be the problem. Try creating a “Services” folder in your Library folder. Then run NoteBook and see if that helps.

I’ve got an older G4 PowerBook too, and had the same problem. As suggested, I created a Services folder and moved it into the Library folder.

Then I created a NoteBookHelper.service folder. When I did that, OS X gave it an icon as though it was an application, but it’s not, really. I moved that into the Services folder, rebooted NoteBook, and the error pop-up went away.

Wherever it went, I hope it stays there.
