Importing NoteTaker filesby Rallx - 08:23AM, Nov 06, 2003 |

I have been using the competition, NoteTaker, for some time but would like to transition to NoteBook for its superior speed and cleaner interface. So, I need to import about 150 pages from 6 different NT files into NoteBook. However, NoteBook says that there is a problem with the .opml files generated by NT, either single pages or whole multipage files.
Any suggestions on how to accomplish this with a minimum of hassle while preserving as much as possible the structure of the existing NT notebooks? Thanks |

Send me a sample file or two (to support@circusponies.com) and I'll see what's going wrong. Also, please send me any messages you find from NoteBook in the Console (/Applications/Utilities/Console). Generally when NoteBook puts up an error sheet it sends more specific information to the Console that's helpful in debugging.

For those of you following this thread, it looks like NoteBook doesn't like the encoding that NT used to export the file. It was ISO-8859-1, better known as ISO-Latin1. I'm not even sure if that's kosher for XML. But anyways, exporting from NT as OPML and choosing UTF-8 from the encoding popup appears to work around the problem.

This UTF-8 option worked perfectly for me after numerous unsuccessful tries. Now I can forge ahead and not have to keep flipping back and forth between programs. Thanks!

ghostwrriter, Can you describe step by step what you did to import NoteTaker docs to NoteBook? Gino J. Piazza

BTW, the v171 release should now correctly read OPML files with ISO-Latin encoding.
