Hi,I like to take notes using the Cornell page, but am having two issues.1. Is there any way to make the left hand column follow the right hand? What I mean is, is there anyway to make the position of the cursor in the left hand column follow the position of the cursor where I am writing in the right? (So, if I am down five lines in the right, I don’t have to click in the left, hit enter five times, and then start typing)?2. More importantly (for me), is there anyway to have the text formatting in the right hand column follow the outline format (ie lists)? It needn’t be able to hide the sub-items, but I’d like to see unordered lists. Thanks,Dave

I have the same problem. I find the easiest solution is to start with a with a new cornell typing page and then hit enter 100 times on both columns this way you can now click onto any place and it will move the cursor there.

Oz’s solution works fine, when (a) you don’t work on very long notes (you shouldn’t, in any case), and (b) you don’t reformat the text or change the window’s size.

With short notes, and no window resizing, everything should be fine. However, a dedicated linking features would be great. Maybe, changing the marginalia and note columns to multiple two-column outline cells.

NoteBook will be implementing a tables update that will allow you to divide a page into columns and achieve the results you’re looking for with an outline format. This feature will be available in one of our update releases in the future.

Actually, the current ‘inline table’ feature could do what we are asking for. Shame it is so buried in sub-menus, and many of us don’t even realize it is there.

You’re right. Inline Tables can also achieve this effect, but the feature is a little hidden. You can find inline tables under Format → Text → Inline Tables… I will bring this to the attention of the developers. Thanks.

Travis,

Since we are there, please let me explain what I would like from a page with a mixed Cornell Note/Table behavior.

1) Make creating a table to be used as a Cornell Note quicker and easier. This means: no cell control shown, no table border, two columns, left column narrower than the right one (but free to be resized).

2) Make navigating in this table easier. Tab for next cell, Shift-Tab for previous cell. Arrows for freely moving though lines and cells.

3) If pressing Tab at the last cell, let a new cell be automatically created.

4) The summary area could just be an empty outline (not table) cell at the end of the page.

What I like of using a table for Cornell Notes, is that it can be exported in any wordprocessor without loosing formatting. As for me, I will continue to use the current Cornell Note page for short notes (I like all questions/key concepts to be one next to the other, without too much space between), and Table/Cornell Notes for longer notes.
