I can enter text OK into shapes and text notes by double clicking, even ones created by dragging from the toolbar.

I can enter text into a sticky note that has been created using the Notes menu command. However, I am not able to edit that note by later double-clicking on it.

If I create a sticky note by dragging it from the toolbar, I don’t even get a blinking text-entry cursor.

I can drop shapes, lines and text notes onto the sticky note regardless of how I created it, but am unable to enter text onto the note itself.

dzec,

“If I create a sticky note by dragging it from the toolbar, I don’t even get a blinking text-entry cursor.”

I have the same experience. But I believe that double-clicking the note before editing is the norm.

I also find it slow to select a shape once it is placed on an outline page. But, double-clicking the shape does eventually allow me to enter text.

It may be helpful if you would supply some more information (i.e., MacOS version, RAM, etc….)

I am using an iBook G4, 1.33 Ghz, 1 Gb RAM and Stickys seem to work for me as advertised.

Thanks,
Thomas

Just solved the problem.

I was using a WACOM USB Graphire 4 tablet. NB does not seem to recognize the double click from the WACOM mouse or from the pen.

However, when I switched to my regular Apple mouse, it worked fine.

Could there be an issue with the WACOM driver?

I also have a Graphire 4 tablet and immediately noticed the same issue on my MacBook Pro. I can double click to edit stickies with the laptop track pad or button but not with the tablet. Let’s hope for a quick fix to this annoying little bug!

I too have this sticky note problem with the Wacom Graphire 4 tablet. I have the latest driver installed and am running it on a Macbook. This seems to be the only problem I have faced with the pen tablet so far. I reported the bug to Circus Ponies. I too hope this will be fixed really soon :)

I hope it gets fixed soon too. Stickies looks like a great feature.

Thanks t-rex.

Know of any workaround to add a sticky to a writing page and have it stick?

Stickies would work great as revision notes in writing pages.

well, resorted to doing drafts as outlines with cell controls visuals turned off and separating paragraphs as individual cells. advantage: can attach Sticky Flags to paragraphs that need revision. with cell controls turned off, looks like a regular writing page.

whatever negatives of putting paragraphs as individual cells in outlines are nullified by the fact that I can export the page as an .rtf document as if it had been written in a writing page.

still wish I could attach Sticky Flags to a selected word or phrase.

PonyUp, you can achieve the same functionality by simply attaching the note to the paragraph and setting the font color of your selected word or phrase to highlight it.

rwebber, but notes don’t hard-attach to paragraphs on writing pages. If you have text that goes past the size of your window and you have to scroll your window to see the rest of the text, the sticky notes do not move with the page.

It’s not so much that I need to focus the note on which word or phrase I am referencing, it’s that I need sticky notes to stay attached to wherever I place them in the document whenever I scroll.

Like I said, at this point, I am doing all my writing pages as outlines (losing the cell controls) so that I can accomplish this. As the help page you referenced states, “You can attach a Sticky Flag to a cell in a page’s outline. The flag will move with the cell as you move it through the outline.” As a result, the flag will move as you scroll your document, too, which is apparently the only way to have a flag scroll with your document.

PonyUp,
I am having exactly the same problem and I am resorting to Italics to mark my paragraphs I want to rework or get back to. I noticed that they text notes stick with the part of the story I put them on. Maybe I can get this to work for me but I would rather drop a flag on the part of the text I want to get back to. Maybe the same code that sticks the text note into place can be incorporated there but I kind of doubt it.

danb, rather than just simply marking a paragraph that needs to be reworked with italics, I like using sticky notes with actual revision notes, etc., which is not a part of the main text and which I can hide if I choose.

I also like the graphic representation of the sticky flag much more than a text note, and I like that I can place a lot of text in a sticky flag and yet pull it off the side of the page so it’s not crowding the main text.

Pony,
Me too. I have sent a comment that mirrored just this thought. I would love to be able to expand on an idea on a reread the the sticky note and then comeback during a writing session, for me they do not always come at the same time, and take advantage of my thoughts.

I am in complete agreement with you. It would be an excellent tool for the way I work.

It’s really disappointing that in such a well-regarded app, you can’t seem to edit sticky notes in the usual expected way. And why can’t I delete sticky notes with a key combination using the delete key?

Not being able to quickly and easily edit (and delete) sticky notes makes this highly-touted feature all but useless to me.

Man, I’m grateful to T-Rex for that pix of the help file with the secret to getting stickies to stick!

Nothing obvious about that.

This is a design issue begging for a pop-up help bubble on first use!

And I echo the other sentiments here about the desirability of using stickies in non-cell environments.
