Another Writer's Whishlist

Another Writer's Whishlist

After having used NoteBook since v. 1.2 for quite a few purposes, one of them being the writing of a book that has a 30% fiction, 70% science profile (some 150 printed pages right now, some 250 pages when it's completed), here is my whishlist:

1. Marginalia, yes, please. The way they are implemented in "Jers Novel Writer" is quite impressive.
2. Smart numbered endnotes. They could be placed in a seperate cell at the the end of an outline page, or (even better) in a seperate outline page with cells linked to their respective outline pages.
3. Layout for printed pages with options to define the number of lines per page and characters per line.
4. Statistics: word count, page count, not necessarily for the whole NoteBook, but for defined pages of it.

I decided to use NoteBook for my writing project even with those whishes unfulfilled, considering all the pros and cons I could find, and I don't regret it until now. Still sometimes I think how nice it would be if only ... (see above)

Now call me a dreamer (I still think I'm not the only one), but I'm not asking nor demanding - just whishing ...

These all sound great, though I'm not particularly interested in number 3. My feeling is that software focused on helping you think, manage information and ideas, and write doesn't need to concern itself with the printed page (though it has to be able to export to something that does). I'm pretty excited by the new Cornell pages. I know this isn't real marginalia as you are wishing/whishing for, but it works pretty well.

Just to make my wish number 3 a little bit clearer: imagine my idea is to get my thoughts on different topics into a consistent written form like: one or two or any other number of pages or lines for each topic.
There are times when composing a text has to deal with contents and form considering their mutual dependence.

Hi! Just bought and downloaded CircusPonies. I just want to throw in my Christmas wish along with RobArt. #4: Word count in particular. It's a really great feature if you want to learn how to write. I tell myself, I'm going to write for 15minutes or maybe I'll say, I'll write 1,000 words every day for the next 20 days. It's a great tool to help get a person in the "habit" of writing. Thanks for the great software. Just to make it clear--wishing this feature for Christmas 2007.

Here's another new NoteBook user chiming in for word count on a given page (writing pages at least) & also for marginalia.

That said, in the bare couple of weeks I've had NoteBook, it's already revolutionizing the process of writing my novel.

Back again with a Christmas 2007 Wish Reminder for Circus Ponies to give us a Word Count when using the "writing" page--I original made this request along with others last Dec 2006. Why is this so important? Recently, I'm finding many places that will publish your article stating in their guidelines that the article should be 500-700 words or something to that affect.

For now, here's what I'm doing, I use WORD to compose and get the word count after saving it; drag-n-drop into NoteBook. Often times I keep thinking to myself, "Boy, wouldn't it be nice, if Circus Ponies had Word Count ." Can't wait 'til Christmas. Hint \(*<>*)/
