Is NoteBook better than OmniOutliner Pro?

I am looking to start a novel and am quite interested in utilsing an outline app rather than the standard text applications. I love the way that NoteBook looks but was wondering whether anyone out there has had the chance to audition NoteBook against OOPro as far as this task is concerned.
I have a copy of OO standard bundled with my iMac and the upgrade is reasonably cheap.

I guess it is a matter of horses for courses.

The major advantage I see that OO has over NB is that of colums. However that can be a blessing and a terrible nuisance all in one.

I presume u are using the outline app to produce the research notes, bibliography and references. If that is the case NB will probably be easily on par with OO. However if your data has a lot of table or column format then OO may be the way to go. However be warned if some of your data has 4 columns and some 5 u will have to create 2 separate OO outlines. Extrapolating, every time u have different number of columns of data u have to create another outline file, which to my mind defeats the purpose of having all your data for one thought/book in one place that can be properly indexed.

Also NB allows u to create a table in a cell with whatever number of columns and rows u require. Further more, this can differ from cell to cell, which is a distinct advantage.

One other thing is that OO does allow metadata about your notes which is more convoluted in NB. Most people don't worry about that.

I'm writing a book and unfortunately I didn't have an outliner when I started doing my research. Though now some of my data is in NB. I tried OO but it was a bit too restrictive.

Hope that helps.
