In the manual I quote: “On the User’s Manual 12. Importing, Exporting and Website Publishing >Publishing a Notebook as a Website… it says, “The web version looks and behaves like the original Notebook – you can even still expand and collapse cells in the page’s outline.”
But…that’s simply not true. All bulletted entries open fully, NOT just showing the first line as in the original on my Mac.

Does CP intend to finally remedy this for publishing on websites?

It makes the content very dense and not at all easy to navigate.
Besides it destroys the object of the notes under the first lines in the outline completely!

Also in your New topic Message box I’m using here, the lines just go on and on and do not wrap . A bug?

Why not try www.website.xxx/notebook/name/pages

It should search for the home page.

I am perusing here since I want to upgrade form version 2, but need to see how many problems there are.

I am using NoteTaker, but it doesn’t do some of the things that Notebook does, and viceversa.

Please could someone help? Every day I study the Word of God and create my study notes in a Circus Ponies Notebook. I wish to share my notes with others on the web as a part of the Great Commission. I would appreciate any guidance. I have uploaded the file to the web, but just can’t seem to access it. – Thanks! – Ken

Thanks mojen for the suggestion. I tried both variants and still get the: “404 Error File Not Found.” Do you or anyone else have any additional ideas? Thanks in advance!

Can we protect what we put on mobile me ?

Would it be simpler to simply upload teh whole “notebook site” to a protected folder from within mobileme (and not “sites”)?

Complete Notebook File not Exporting to Web (commented by Eric)

Hello John,

We’ve seen some issues with Mobile Me in the past. From what we’ve observed, it appears that Mobile Me is not always uploading pages correctly when exporting as a web site.

First try going onto your iDisk and deleting the exported Notebook. Then try re-exporting it.

If that doesn’t work, a possible workaround is to create a folder on your desktop with the name of your site, then with your Notebook open, choose File->Export as a Website->To Disk… When asked to specify a location to which to save, chose the folder you created on your Desktop.

Once the export completes, open your iDisk and navigate to /iDisk/Web/Sites. Then, drag the folder you created on your desktop to the Sites folder in your iDisk. Once the upload is complete, you can access your site with this URL:

http://web.me.com/your_mobile_me_account_name/the_name_of_the_folder_you_created/index.html

Example:

http://web.me.com/marysmith/circusponies/index.html

If you’re still having a problem after that, you should contact Technical Support directly here. We’ll be able to work with your directly to try to resolve the issue.

I have a notebook file with 66 pages. I have a Mobile Me account. Only the first couple of tabs will sync and export. I have tried to redo a few times. I have plenty of space in my Mobile Me account.
Anyone have any ideas?

You might have an older or corrupted copy of NoteBook. To eliminate that as an issue, try getting a copy of the latest version (v370 currently) here:

I’m struggling with this a bit myself. I’d like to simply password protect and encrypt the notebook data. Upload to MobileMe and make sure it’s secure when accessed from the web. Right now, it doesn’t seem to hold it’s built-in security, so I need to use the MobileMe public password. However, if you know the URL, it appears you can bypass that password… true? False? Better way to set this up? Thanks in advance for your help.

Notebook is NICE, but would it be great if then was a useable Day Planner like Day Runner or Daytimer. Also looking for something with a Outlook format for contacts. I want a lot, but the heart wants what it wants.

Has anyone found a reasonable path for getting a Notebook’s content into an .ePub file? I have tried converting both from a PDF and from HTML to ePub via Calibre and they end up as a complete mess.

I have a large, complex notebook (~400 pages of information, heavily linked) which I make available as PDF and HTML. The PDFs look horrible on mobile devices because the device cannot re-wrap the long lines (resulting in shrinking the page and very tiny text; also no images/sketches from the notebook on the Nook). I am trying to get as much of the information as possible to ePub-supporting mobile devices.

Because this is something which gets updated and republished on a regular basis, it has to be a simple, relatively automatic process to blast out a new version in the various formats. Has there been any thought on direct ePub production from Notebook? ePub is essentially a zipped bundle of HTML files with special CSS, so there should be code reuse from the HTML export.

I am a newbie to circus poines. Last night I was trying to put my notebook on web, a message always came up that said, I needed to set up my mobile me account. Do, I have to have a mobile me account?

I use google on my phone, it syncs my calendar, contacts, almost everything for free. Mobile me wants a lot of money. Is there another way besides mobile me or is mobile me a must for an iphone? If so what am I missing?

Missing Images in HTML (by Corina)

I want to export my NB pages as an HTML page. But after export, some images are missing.

I’ve inserted the images (copy and paste) in NB using the “non-writing” mode. I don’t know how it is called, it’s simple pressing ESC when writing a text. In this mode you can also use the arrow keys for navigating. Afterwards I’m able to position the image on the whole page by simply dragging it (this is the feature I need).

The generated HTML page shows only these images, located on the first screen of the webpage, without scrolling down. All images located further down, which can only be seen by scrolling the page, seem to be there (I can mark them) but as empty/white images. The export saved these images as “overlayXXX-XX.png”. Whereas the mentioned blank images are really saved as blank images.

Is there any restriction when exporting such overlays? Or is there another possibility for inserting images in “freehanded mode”, maybe with text wrapping?

I have been having problems getting my content to upload properly to Mobile Me for a couple of months. I thought the problem was on my side when I tried to upload only the changes to my online journal. It seems my content was going to the Homepage Sites folder which Apple isn’t supporting now and when I went back and uploaded all notebook content everything was online once I got the new address. Not sure this is the full explanation but it is working again.
I probably just missed the announcement for this change and haven’t seen any discussion here. Is there more to this?

I have been experimenting with a web site that would essentially appear like a Circus Ponies notebook. It would be a knowledge base of information on Human Error.
The content is text, graphics, and links to references, glossary, and external web sources.
I want it to look like a conventional notebook not a conventional web page or blog. So far so good.

What size and proportions of a notebook is most likely to work on most peoples screen?

I am trying to get a layout that is easy to read and yet allows the advantage of links.

Thanks for any advise from people who have experimented with this.

As a newbie, this may be a really dumb question but I have to ask.

If I publish a notebook to my mobile me account I’m assuming that the notebook will only be availalable to someone if I give them a password to my public folder.

Thank you Mojen. I have never felt the need for your type of immediate syncronization, because I admit that (1) I prefer to pass through a revision phase of all the notes and appointments I take when out of my office, and (2) most of the notes I take out of the office are long meeting or lesson sessions, that require revising in any case.

But I understand that you are doing a massive amount of on-field data collection, that would make my type of use very time consuming. Syncing/merging between notebooks would actually be a time saver for you.

I use my notebooks to store client data that I reference when I am at a client’s location. Sometimes I’m onsite and need to change something in a particular notebook. As I can’t edit it, I have to write the update in another application, update the notebook when I get home, and then re-export the notebook to a website again.

This process is too cumbersome and prone to error (i.e., forgetting to type in an update or forgetting to export the website again after a change is made ).

I don’t expect that any application can cater to everyone’s specific usage habits. I was just wondering if anyone else encountered this problem with Notebook and how they worked around it.
