Storing templates

Storing templates

by rickl - 02:31AM, Aug 23, 2006

It’s always disappointing when I come across what looks like a great template, but the link is dead. Could Circus Ponies set up some system where templates are stored on the CP servers, and you wouldn’t necessarily have to go through the forums to download them? By default, any template could be automatically stored like this, but authors could opt out if they wished.

Agreed!!

I am very new to both NB & this forum & would love the opportunity to have a look at some of the templates listed here

Unfortunately 4/4 links I have tried so far are dead Frown((

Yes, I think it's unrealistic to expect users who might already have changed web hosting plans, lost interest in the software for one reason or another, or whatever, to take responsibility for maintaining accessibility. I wouldn't have thought it was too much trouble for Circus Ponies to keep a copy, and it would certainly add value to Notebook.

Has the template storage issue been resolved?

Circus Ponies does not want to host these because of liability issues: what if the template does not work? People might sue the company, along with the template provider. Yes, crazy as it sounds, I have seen it before.

In this day when free online storage is everywhere, I don’t think we have problem finding a home for our templates. We can even create a Google group, not for discussion (which is what this forum is all about), but for storing templates. Let me know what you think.

I agree, but then again all they have to do is put up a disclaimer, or ask a lawyer.
Anyway, this has been the most frustrating thing about using this software. No template support or anything for help on making them. Pffffft OH WELL.
