"Top Secret" NoteBook Template

by simon - 11:06AM, May 04, 2004

OverviewThis notebook and templates are designed to alleviate the tedium of storing ones ever increasing collection of passwords, credit card details, bank details and other numerous forms of personal information you need to remain private and secure. You first need to carry out the following before entering your own data:Open the Notebook Inspector and set a password. Also best to check both boxes for extra security. You may also wish to active the “Cover if Inactive for” option to be extra safe.Next open each template and customise any of the cell keywords, add or delete cells and any other required changes to the default templates.Once satisfied with the changes select Encrypt Page Data from the Page menu for each template. Save.Copy a template from the Templates section and paste it into the relevant page each time you want to save your private information. Rename it. You can now add your own info within these empty cells safe in the knowledge that the page is encrypted and password protected.SimonTuesday, May 4, 2004Preview URLTop SecretThere appears to be an HTML export bug so that only the first keyword is displayed on each page. So it’s best to just download the template and check it out for yourself, as there are loads of keywords applied.Download URLTop SecretSince there’s an iPod mini at stake now I updated the template slightly. Nothing major so if you’re already using it don’t worry. Changes: removed the hidden keyword from the Registration Number keyword in the Software Registrations template and renamed it Registration. Slight tweaking of the wording in the “How to use this notebook page.” And lastly added plenty of blank space on the cover page so that the Password Hint cell was not obscured by the password sheet.Simon 6th May ‘04

Simon,
Got your "Secret" NoteBook. Great!!
One question: How do I copy the cells and titles? Or am I just coping the cell fields over the the page?
Newbe to NoteBook...

I looked at this template for method ideas; I can't figure out how Simon was able to right-justify the keywords that act as fieldnames. It looks great.

How did he do it?

I finally figured out how to right justify the Keywords and it is an amazingly simple thing. Just uncheck the Stickers in the View menu and lo and behold, right justified keywords!

Thanks for "Top Secret"; very handy. However, I also do not understand your instructions: "Copy a template from the Templates section and paste it into the relevant page each time you want to save your private information. Rename it." How do I copy a template etc Usually, you use the template as it is and then give it a new name. But you indicate some other procedure.

Judy,
It looks like Simon rearranged his web page a bit but didn't update the link. TopSecret can be found at
Top Secret's New Home

Hope this helps.

The link posted by Simon on Feb 04, 2005 is a working link. Click on the NoteBook.app link and there you will find the link to download the secret NB template.

You have to update the template to the current version but it will automatically prompt you to do that when you open it.
