Try saving the new notebook before you browse it, so in the contents divider select what pages/dividers you want, copy, paste into new notebook, save as, save. The attached files are nested in a package file, where the .nb file isn’t really a file, it’s a folder that houses Notebook specific files and your attachments. Your stuff is probably not displaying since you haven’t saved it to the HD, so it can’t reference the actual attached file/image. I’ve done this before with attachments, so try saving the new NB.

As for crash, copy the crash report and console error messages and submit a bug report.

I’m using Microsoft Live Sync and haven’t had any problems so far. It’s free and almost no limitation.
http://sync.live.com/
Once you set folder to sync, you don’t need to do anything. Edit files, and quit NoteBook. All files will be synced automatically.

One note to use Live Sync. You need to run both machine during sync. If you can not run a machine at the same time, for example if you shut down Mac Pro when you use MacBook Pro, SkyDrive may be more useful for you.

Good luck,

In fact I just tested again by coping a page with the attachments from the notebook A then pasted to the notebook B. The both copy and past was done at the Contents Divider of Notebook A and Notebook B. I had a crash of the application.

“The application NoteBook quit unexpectedly.” sign came up on the screen.

I was able to move pages from the Notebook A to Notebook B. I was so excited that I just scan the pictures and filled the notebook with many pages with pictures, PDF, using “Press Shift to place the attachment anywhere on the page”. And now I wanted to categorize theses pages by creating couple different notebooks.

I just learn this how to do by reading this forums “Moving a pages to a different notebook”. So here I am – I made scrap books of different categories. And using below technic which worked wonderfully before perhaps without any attachments. But NOW NO!! My all of attachments I pasted on a new notebook appeared as WHITE BLANK PICTURES.

Do you have any idea how to Transfer the pages from Notebook A ->Notebook B with attachments – pictures, PDF, etc. I would really like to do this. Please let me know. Thank You!!

[If you want to copy entire pages from NoteBook A (NB-A) to NoteBook B (NB-B) you can do this using Cut and Paste for the Entire page(s) by:

Opening NB-A & NB-B up side by side, both open at the Contents Divider.
Assuming A is the source, select the page(s) in NB-A you want to copy/move to NB-B by;
Select NB-A
Click1 just to the left of the page ‘cell control’ for each page you want to relocate from NB-A to NB-B
‘Copy’ the page(s)
Select NB-B (Contents Page / Section) and
‘Paste’]

Ahh, just answered my own question. I’m guessing I couldn’t snap back because I was not the creator of the PDF…or at least that’s what I think. I have just downloaded skim for my mac which allows me to edit PDFs regardless of account privileges and the snap-back feature magically works!

Hello, over the next few months I will be doing research and pouring over several hundred PDFs, webpages, and videos. I love that I can clip sections of webpages to Notebook and then get a snap-back feature. My problem is when it comes to all my local PDF documents. I can clip them, but not snap back to them. Right now the only thing I can think of doing is clipping and then quickly dragging the PDF doc into notebook and saving it as a reference. Unfortunately, this is getting very frustrating as I find myself sometimes saving the same PDF to several different pages in my Notebook. Is there a simpler way of doing all this? I really need the ability to quickly find the source of a given article in my Notebook. I tried to search in the forum and through the help section but I had no luck. Thanks for any help, Justin

If you are going to use syncing software such as MobileMe’s, it’s safest to archive the Notebook first (before syncing) using the Finder’s Compress command (in the File menu).

That will help prevent potential data corruption from syncing software that has trouble with file packages, which is what a Notebook file is. A file package is a special folder that the Finder (and other OS X applications, if they follow Apple’s rules) treat like a single flat file. MobileMe is known to have issues with file packages (it’s been acknowledged by Apple in the past).

I don’t use mobileme, so I can’t speak to that particularly, but you can generally select files to sync or place what you want to sync in a specific folder to work out of. Just do one or the other (whichever MobileMe does) and notebook should push changes over MobileMe as you make them.

You can sync with services like Dropbox or MobileMe, but don’t simultaneously have notebook running on both. If you make edits on both machines, you can corrupt the notebook as the sync software tries to stitch them together.

If you can be good about closing it out on one computer, letting the upload sync complete, and wait for the down sync to complete on new computer before opening and editing, it works fine with the exception of some issues (search mobileme or .moddates in the genius bar).

I love my NoteBook application so much more now that I know how to use it with my customized pages and etc.

I use mainly on my desk top Mac Pro computer, but now that I use my NoteBook always, if I were to use on my portable computer MacBook pro as well, how do I sync between two of them. I already bought Family Pack License so I can use one of that for my MacBook Pro computer. But certainly I would like to have synced up between my Mac Pro and MacBook Pro. So I don’t need to worry about if I wrote important message on one then if I knew automatically or manually synced then I know everything is up to date.

Does anyone know about sync capability?

Other solution would be if I Networked MacBook Pro to Mac Pro, so whenever I need to use NoteBook I can open the application On MacBook Pro. Dose this slow down the application, or the computer is fast enough I don’t need to worry about that.

Although I still like the idea of sync better.

This works great to create a new page from my customized page template as well.

Also I appreciated that you have carefully explain about “Click – just to the left of the page ‘Cell Control’ on a Contents divider to select a page. As simple as this I was having a hard time selecting a page. Point and click on the cell blue button then goes to that selected page, etc. Thank you for your note.

Are you using the current version of notebook? Also, SL broke some clipping functions, but you should still be able to access it through services if text is highlighted (or, failing that, right clicking notebook in dock and pasting to clipping page).

John – I believe what you’d like to do is open up finder and drag & drop (or copy & paste) SEVERAL files (as a Batch) onto a page, into a cell, or on to the a Table of Contents and subsequently view them in NoteBook. I experimented with several types of documents including: txt, pdf, and odf; and tried the following:

1) Dropping documents inside of a cell on the above mentioned pages and was successful at crashing the NoteBook program several times in a row.

2) Dropping documents onto an index page and although they did not paste into individual pages – I instead discovered an image of a 3 dimensional stack of the multiple documents placed directly on the page. However, each doc in the stack still had to be clicked and opened in the respective program.

I do know that this task can be accomplished with the NoteTaker program which I happened to purchase before getting NoteBook as part of a MacUpdate Promo.

You will be interested to know that with the NoteTaker program you CAN drop several files directly onto the Table of Contents, and viola, your documents are copied to separate pages and are completely readable within the NoteTaker program.

(PS Both programs are descendants of the long defunct Millenium Software – I wonder if Circus Ponies can find a way to make this work – see AquaMinds dot com)

Nealtex,
It would be a real pain trying to manually drag several levels of outlines to order them by creation date. Your request is a reasonable one. I am not sure what tab you are referencing at the top of your left margin – could you post a pic or tell me what view options you have selected?

About sorting – I did investigate the AutoSorting feature under the Outline Menu. I find that upon selecting various sorts (by: Alphabetize, Various Dates, Highlighter, etc.), the dates do indeed change. It looks confusing because child items are not removed from their parents to accommodate the actual creation dates.

However I did find some features heretofore unknown to me:

1. A parent cell can be set to Autosort it’s child cell & all decendants; and the sort remaints static as other sorts are executed for the entire index/card/divider.

2. As a consequence of #1, if you have inadvertently set some cells on Autosort, (maybe alphabetical) they won’t sort as you’d expect when selecting different sort (maybe date) unless you remove Autosort.

3. Through the Sort Inspector, located on the actions page of the Inspector; manual, prioritized sorting can be selected. Click the double headed vertical arrows to move the various sort categories up and down, to create a personalized sort.

To wrap my mind around it I had to duplicate a notebook for experimentation, just to sort out all this sorting business.

Good Luck and please post again if you discover something brilliant.
