Moving pages to a different notebook?

by sgalhc - 02:08PM, Sep 19, 2009

Am finding my notebook is getting unwieldy and have made different notebooks for distinct segments of my life and would like to move some existing pages from one notebook to another—is there a way to do this short of copying and pasting content?

If you want to copy entire pages from NoteBook A (NB-A) to NoteBook B (NB-B) you can do this using Cut and Paste for the Entire page(s) by:

  1. Opening NB-A & NB-B up side by side, both open at the Contents Divider.
    Assuming A is the source, select the page(s) in NB-A you want to copy/move to NB-B by;
  2. Select NB-A
  3. Click1 just to the left of the page ‘cell control’ for each page you want to relocate from NB-A to NB-B
  4. ‘Copy’ the page(s)
  5. Select NB-B (Contents Page / Section) and
  6. ‘Paste’

1 Notes:

  • Although you can ‘Cut’ and ‘Paste’ effectively moving the pages I do not recommend this process, it is too easy to lose page(s) this way.
    • It is better to Copy from NB-A, Paste to NB-B and then, once you are sure and happy that they are in fact safely where you want them (in NB-B), then go back to NB-A and delete them.

  • Like most Mac Apps you can select multiple items to copy and paste by ‘Shift’ click on contiguous pages (ie., 1,2,3 ,4 & 5) or by ‘Cmd’ click for non-contigous pages (eg., 1,3 & 5).

I was doing this tonight. Moving 3 pages of nothing but resource links for parents, teachers, and students. Worked like a charm:

This works great to create a new page from my customized page template as well.

Also I appreciated that you have carefully explain about “Click – just to the left of the page ‘Cell Control’ on a Contents divider to select a page. As simple as this I was having a hard time selecting a page. Point and click on the cell blue button then goes to that selected page, etc. Thank you for your note.
