Is there a way to truly order the items (pages) on the Contents Page by entry date?

Maybe I am missing something, but when I click through the options (Created Changed, Due, Completed), to the “Created” tab at the top of the left margin, the dates of the pages still appear to be in a completely random order.

Thx.

Those are view options, not sort options.

The contents card/page doesn’t display pages randomly, it displays them as you’ve created them/arranged them in notebook. If you don’t like how they’re arranged, rearrange them by dragging to your satisfaction.

Nealtex,
It would be a real pain trying to manually drag several levels of outlines to order them by creation date. Your request is a reasonable one. I am not sure what tab you are referencing at the top of your left margin – could you post a pic or tell me what view options you have selected?

About sorting – I did investigate the AutoSorting feature under the Outline Menu. I find that upon selecting various sorts (by: Alphabetize, Various Dates, Highlighter, etc.), the dates do indeed change. It looks confusing because child items are not removed from their parents to accommodate the actual creation dates.

However I did find some features heretofore unknown to me:

1. A parent cell can be set to Autosort it’s child cell & all decendants; and the sort remaints static as other sorts are executed for the entire index/card/divider.

2. As a consequence of #1, if you have inadvertently set some cells on Autosort, (maybe alphabetical) they won’t sort as you’d expect when selecting different sort (maybe date) unless you remove Autosort.

3. Through the Sort Inspector, located on the actions page of the Inspector; manual, prioritized sorting can be selected. Click the double headed vertical arrows to move the various sort categories up and down, to create a personalized sort.

To wrap my mind around it I had to duplicate a notebook for experimentation, just to sort out all this sorting business.

Good Luck and please post again if you discover something brilliant.
