Why doesn't NoteBook scroll left/right for large images? (by DeepYogurt)

Is there a way to make NoteBook be able to scroll it’s window left/right in order to see images that are wider than the current window width?

Seems like this “scrolling” feature is part of any other OS X app I can think of when the content is wider than the width of the window the app is currently using. Seems like as soon as you add content to an app window that is wider than what it’s current window is capable of displaying, left/right scroll bar automatically appears at the bottom of the window, but not in NoteBook’s case for some reason.

The lack of this automatic display of a left/right scrollbar when the content can’t be displayed in the current app’s window seems so “un-Mac” like. I have never noticed this before as I don’t happen to use really wide images in my NoteBook files often, but when it happened and the expected left/right scrollbar didn’t appear I was really surprised.

Text of course is never an issue as it is dynamically resized and displayed to fit the width of the NoteBook window no matter how it is resized.

Any idea why this happens and if anything can be set in NoteBook so that it can scroll wide images left/right without being forced to widen the window? I suppose I could shrink the image with the “scale” option, but that only solves the problem temporarily – it’s still a problem if the window is made narrower later on.

Thanks…

-Bob

ps – this happens on NoteBook 3.1.2 on both versions of OS X that I tried – Lion (10.7) and Snow Leopard (10.6)

Printing only selected cells (by DeepYogurt)

I was trying to find a way to just print only the selected cells but couldn’t see how to do it and asked Circus Ponies tech support and Travis told me about the “Only print selected cells” option.

My problem was that I had not expanded the print options to see it.

If you need to do this just click on the down arrow to the right of the printer name in the Print dialog box and you will see a whole bunch of options. The “Only print selected cells” option is located among several “Cell options” near the bottom of the dialog box in the “Layout” tab.

Thanks so much Travis!!!!

Heard from Travis at Circus Ponies tech support that you can do this. It is located in the Print menu, but you have to expand the Print pane to show all the other options by clicking on the down arrow to the right of the printer name. A whole bunch of options are now shown, one of which “Only print selected cells” in the “Layout” tab, is exactly what I was hoping for.

Yaaaaaaaa – NoteBook is so wickedly awesome – you just need to keep looking around and what you wanted is just a click away (sometimes anyway ;-)

Thanks again Travis!!!!!

Since the iPad has already ventured into the retina display, would the Notebook soon reformat its display to appear gorgeous in the new iPad? I’ve downloaded mine just last night, and found that the toolbar and the icons were pixelized.:(

Is there a way to only print only the text that is highlighted/selected? It’s kind of a pain to have to print the entire NoteBook page to a PDF (might be dozens of physical pages) and then open the file in Preview and then print just the desired physical page(s).

Thanks…

I’m getting the impression that this software will never meet my needs and I’m thinking that I might as well do what I’m trying to do with good old Pages…. pagination, check. embedded video and audio clips, check. basic graphics and shapes, text and font functions, global search and change, check. Footnotes, check.

I’m starting to wonder, with the exception of a more powerful and automatically generated contents list and index (I think that’s what it does, anyway? as well as too many page style options to be useful to me) if Notebook, with all its drawbacks, is simply not worth the extreme hassle for me at this point. I’m not sure who would find the existing limitations with regards to printing, as well as the bugs with formatting a relative non-issue…. I wonder what they are using it for. Not writing a book, not compiling notes or documentation meant to be shared with anyone, other than other Notebook users, which are pretty few and far between in my world.

I would love to see this work, but 2 years into playing with it occasionally, and no apparent progress on a simple and important feature like pagination, and one would wonder if this is nearly a dead app or simply underfunded and untended, which is pretty much the same thing. A nice idea that doesn’t really create something useful (for me, at least.) No offense to the developers, but I must not be your target audience. Best wishes to all, I will check back in 6 months for signs of life.

Voice annotation icon invisible (by yebdox)

This used to work, but lately, the clipping logo (horizontal play window) is not visible
at all on any page, unless I click the mouse in the general vicinity where I think it’s hiding.

I don’t use Notebook as much as I had thought I would, but do like to keep a running
practice log for jazz performance, and was using the voice annotation as a way to create
a short musical clip for ideas I didn’t want to forget. Now, as soon as I start to record, the recording
window goes away, and one must go the Page menu bar and hit a different menu control to stop recording.
I don’t think that it worked that way before, although I could be wrong, but that is a huge inconvenience,
and there is no visible play bar logo to indicate that anything happened.

I did write to tech support yesterday, but it’s the weekend, so I don’t know when I might hear from
them.

Any one notice this bug in their use of this software? I’m running the latest version of Lion on a 27” iMac
with 8 gigs of RAM that otherwise performs flawlessly (Mac user for 27 years, now.)

Thanks.

Another way to avoid this (and match the style you are currently using in NoteBook) is to use the Paste and Match Style command in the Paste submenu of the Edit menu (Shift-Option-Command-V). This is a common OS X command found in many applications.
