For people who (like me) only need a read-only version of their notebooks: exporting as a web site does not mean you must access them online. Just copy the web site files to your smartphone (or laptop), and you can access them without an internet connection.

I must admit that my enthusiasm for a device like an iPad is directly linked to the availability of something like Notebook for it.

Notebook is great – but Laptops are not always the most convenient form factor when you want to quickly reference information that you have. If there was a poll on it I would definately vote for a iPad/phone version….

I admit that, probably because English is not my native language, that I don’t understand what you are tying to do. Can you reword the description of your problem? I know pictures have several ways of being moved or anchored to a page.

Nevermind I could my answer. You basically have to cheat your way around by dragging it in as an Object.

This feature is in almost any basic featured word program. Why is it not in this?

Hi Everyone

I’m just trying to find out how I can have an Object such as a picture have “no wrap” so it does not take up an entire chunk in a notebook page.

In other words I want my object to float above the text so that I can move it exactly where I want.

I might sound skeptical, but have been following this forum for the last 5-6 months, and I think there wont be an iphone app nor ipad app.

By following the forum.. I mean following the updates on the application in the form of announcements, updates, etc. NoteBook 3.0 released in September 2008, I am glad that there is consistent bug fix and I was very hopeful of iphone app & a web integration (automatic import and export) as well as further features research. Unfortunately, I dont feel that way anymore.

Please do not get me wrong, I LOVE NoteBook and probably it is this too much love that’s resulting in high expectation.

Am I the only one who feels this way? Am I mistaken in my conclusion ?

I recently switched to the Macbook Pro from 35 years on the PC. I am an Information Technology Analyst for a very large organization. While out for dinner with my wife recently, I started leafing through my copy of “MacLife” to kill the boredom of waiting for Gail to finish dinner! I don’t normally do this, but the ad for Notebook caught my eye. I wrote down the URL on my analog note pad with my trusty “human graphical interface device” (bic pen). Then last night I downloaded and installed the program. I wasn’t expecting much.

Wow! I learned a big lesson. Surprises come in small packages. I’ve been using the competition (Yojimbo) for a few months. I like it. Thought it was great. But using NoteBook is like switching on the light in a dark room! The interface is extremely pleasing. The features are powerfully rich. Kudos to the developers of this product. It needs to be out there. Why did I not know about this before buying Yojimbo.

Who cares. I will be buy this one regardless. And I can see hundreds of application for this program in my work as an Analyst, my leisure time activities and my hobby… Internet Marketing and Web Design. I have a few dozen clients in my web business as well as over 50 websites that I manage. This program will significantly reduce my workload, and will make me a heck of a lot more efficient at what I do.

I most certainly will demo this program to my peers in my day job, and will others that follow me on the Internet circuit.

Thank you guys for developing this product!

Another thought, in addition to using cell linking to link from an outline page that could act as a table of contents, each item with a link to an exhibit or code page, you could also just put sticky flags with the name of the item on the page you’re interested in accessing quickly.

I’ve been using Dropbox for over a year and I’m pretty happy with it. When I’m done with a notebook for the day, I save a copy to my Dropbox folder. The copy I’m working on lives in my Documents folder. I’ve restored from Dropbox a couple of times (when I deleted a file by accident) and it worked fine.

Good Luck.

Two suggestions: Dropbox and CrashPlan. Dropbox is something you can copy and paste your file to, which will push it to their server (2gb free) which you can then download if you ever lose your copy. You can also work out of the Dropbox folder itself, where changes will be updated, but there are some issues with the current version having a locked file that causes Dropbox to give up syncing. To be safe, work outside dropbox and copy a backup into the sync folder when you want to push a copy offsite.

CrashPlan is a free program (with a paid variant) that will give you incremental daily backups. It recognizes .nb as a package and will back up all items. I haven’t restored a Notebook yet, but have restored other things and it does its job. Backups are encrypted, as well. Plus, unlike TimeMachine, it actually was built to work with FileVault so you can restore parts of files without having to mount the time machine volume and going through all these hoops.

With the Newly released iPad, I am hoping to see a version of Notebook for the iPad, which could offer different keyboards for entering in data like formulas and equations (for math class etc) or a mode where you can draw diagrams or write equations with math symbols just with your finger.

That would be fantastic!

Depends:
If you add a file or link to it, no. You’d have to annotate in Notebook the page you want to review and use Preview to skip to that page (in Preview you can add to the toolbar a page field where you can type the page you want to be taken to).

If you insert for annotation, yes. This is probably what you’ll want to do. When you drag a PDF into Notebook, you get an option to add for annotation. Every page of the PDF is added into notebook as it’s own page in notebook. You could link directly to that page in notebook, and even annotate on it. You can, anywhere on those annotated pages, right click the image and choose to open/view the source file in Preview also (it embeds the file, then spans the pages in Notebook).

Also, check out MarketCircle’s Daylite and Billings. They may be of interest to you for practice management. Very affordable ($180 and $40 for single user licenses). The Billings integration needs a tad more work, but I got both for a legal clinic I’m doing in law school and am happy with the purchase.

I’d really like to see Notebook integrate with Daylite (cross referencing – so a task would link to notes on it in Notebook or something), but that’s asking for a lot from one of the developers.

I also use MathType and find it good. Presently I also save the file and paste it into Notebook. It is okay but it would be nice to be able to simply click on my Notebook entry and have it open up in MathType so that I can edit my equations.

I have used Notebook for some time as a log to keep track of research extracts. I created a form where I log the information that I find as well as the citation of the source. I use one page for each source and I keep a copy of the image on the notebook page as well. I insert several new writing pages and then I copy the blank form to each page. I organize the content page by Surname.

I do have a question for anyone who might know the answer. Is it possible to create a page (form) and then be able to copy it with all formatting as a new page? (Inserting it as we do new notes or writing pages.)

I run TM manually once a day. While I would like to have a hourly backup, I hope daily backups are safe enough to avoid losing too much work in case of severe damages to the main disk.

Before running TM, I close Scrivener. All documents are backed up, from time to time, as zipped archives. The same I do with all my other files (including NoteBook). And then, about twice a year, I save everything into an external drive that I keep in an armory, far from the main desk.

As of now, I have not had a single problem with TM (or Scrivener, or NoteBook), so the strategy seems to work.

Hey all, I am having some troubles with voice annotations in NoteBook.

I took the powerpoint provided by my instructor and converted it to a PDF. I then put the PDF into NoteBook. Cool. I now have about 50 pages that I can annotate during the lecture. At the beginning of my lecture, I clicked on the voice annotation to record the professor and made typed annotations to the slides as the instructor went over them. Now I have the slides provided by my instructor with annotations. But then I went to review the audio and I have no idea how to do so.

Normally, when I am working with an outline that has voice annotations I can click on the icon on the left hand of the page and listen to the lecture at the moment that I typed the information. With an imported PDF it appears as though I cannot listen to a voice annotation, correct? If not, then this is a seriously overlooked feature. I attached a picture to show what I mean.

Thanks in advance for any feedback anyone has out there.
